Association of the Miraculous Medal

The Bible doesn’t reveal much about Our Blessed Mother, but you can discover a little more about her by reading from the ancient writings of early Church fathers.

Mary was born in Nazareth to Joachim and Anna, who had difficulty bearing children. An angel came to Mary’s father one day and told him that his prayers would be answered. The angel also appeared to Mary’s mother, and much of what the angel reported to her would later become the words to our beloved prayer, the “Hail Mary.”

I was thinking about our Blessed Mother’s life story while preparing to celebrate her birthday on September 8 here at our Association of the Miraculous Medal.

Surely you will want to be included!

It has become a custom here to create this large, breathtaking candle — a very special birthday present for the Mother of the Light of the World, Jesus Christ.

But there’s more to our tradition! This large candle will burn near our Lady’s Altar in our National Shrine throughout a special octave of prayer dedicated to her.

Your personal needs and prayers will be included during our Birthday Octave of Prayer which begins September 8 and ends September 15!

Send me your special prayer intentions so you can take advantage of this opportunity to seek favor from our Blessed Mother. If you are able, please also consider sharing a special birthday offering.

Life events like a birthday or wedding were quite important to Mary. Remember the wedding at Cana? She pleaded with Jesus to help make the celebration memorable by performing his first “sign,” the miracle of turning water into wine.

If there is something in your heart you would like Mary to present to Jesus on your behalf, there is no better occasion!  Saint Louis Marie de Montfort once said, “We never give more honor to Jesus than when we honor his Mother.”

I cannot think of a more opportune time to honor our Blessed Mother than on her birthday!

Just as the Body of Christ, our Church, is incomplete without you, honoring our Blessed Mother’s birthday will not be complete without your participation. More importantly, your special birthday offering will ensure that our mission of spreading Mary’s message of hope will continue.

Remember, the Mother of God keeps her promise of interceding with her Son, Jesus Christ, when we answer her call to spread devotion through her Miraculous Medal. She showers us with her motherly concern when we answer her call to action!

But don’t just take my word for it.  Here’s one example from a member of our Lady’s Association:

“Several years ago, I was crossing a road when a speeding car struck me. I was flung onto the hood of the car and landed in the middle of the road. Fortunately, another vehicle did not hit me.  Everyone who saw the accident was amazed I was even alive!  Many said it was a miracle. I was wearing my Miraculous Medal.”

There are countless personal stories reporting how our Blessed Mother has interceded on behalf of one of our Association members like you. I urge you to mark September 8 on your calendar and join in our celebration of Mary’s birthday.

Sincerely in Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Kevin McCracken, C.M.
