Association of the Miraculous Medal

Our Blessed Mother Mary intercedes for you and your loved ones! She hears your prayers and presents them to her Son Jesus who pours out his grace in your time of need. This miraculous, maternal care is our Blessed Mother’s mission, especially under her titles of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and Our Lady of Lourdes.

Our Lady, under these honored titles, has indeed obtained countless miracles for her sons and daughters throughout history and across the globe. Since her appearance to Saint Catherine Labouré in the year 1830, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal has touched millions of lives. Twenty-eight years later, Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette Soubirous in 1858 and, since then, a total of seventy Church approved miracles have been declared directly attributable to Our Lady of Lourdes.

In fact, the 70th miracle of Lourdes was officially recognized and declared on the most recent feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11, 2018. Beautifully, the miracle involved a French nun by the name of Sister Bernadette Moriau who visited Lourdes on pilgrimage in 2008. Sister Bernadette suffered a severe spinal complication that rendered her wheelchair-bound beginning in 1980.

After attending a blessing of the sick at the Lourdes Shrine, Sister Bernadette commented, “I felt a surge of well-being throughout my body, a relaxation, warmth…I returned to my room and there, a voice told me to ‘take off your braces’. Surprise! I could move!” The International Medical Committee of Lourdes found that her healing could not be scientifically explained.

Such miracles explain why we honor Our Lady of Lourdes here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. It is especially significant to us that our Lady said to Saint Bernadette, “I am the Immaculate Conception,” because our Lady gave Sister Catherine Labouré in 1830 the design of the Miraculous Medal which was at first called, “the medal of Mary of the Immaculate Conception.”

Each year, the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is celebrated on February 11, and I invite you to join us as we honor Our Lady of Lourdes, with an Octave of Masses from February 11-18, asking for her healing intercession for those we love.

Please send us your octave petitions, as well as any requests for Votive Lights, especially if you or someone dear to you is in need of healing of any kind – spiritual, physical, emotional, or mental.

Mary, honored under her titles of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and Our Lady of Lourdes, is always ready to help her children. We need your assistance – your prayers and your financial support. Any offering you make to the Association will help us in our mission of bringing the world to Jesus through Mary.

Your intentions will be remembered here at the Shrine during the Lourdes Octave of Masses, February 11-18. May our Lord Jesus bless you for your generosity, and may Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and Our Lady of Lourdes keep you in her tender, maternal care.

Sincerely yours in Jesus and Mary
