Systems Analyst

Under the direction of the Data Team Leader, the Systems Analyst designs, codes, tests, documents, and implements applications to satisfy user requests. Generally, the Systems Analyst’s customers are internal Association staff members.


1. Works with users in creating new programming applications, or making changes to existing applications.

2. Follows departmental rules of standardization and structured coding techniques when designing applications, writing code, and producing documentation.

3. Makes use of software programs or routines provided in areas of control language, sort, utility, and programming productivity aids.

4. Works on personal computers, and the personal computer network. Installs PC software and hardware, solves any problems related to this, and works with PC users.

5. Assists computer operators in the productive running of jobs.

6. Serves as a backup to other systems analysts on other applications.

7. Performs other related duties as assigned.


A Degree in Information Systems or related field is required (Bachelors preferred, Associates acceptable depending upon experience), as well as experience working with relational databases and familiarity of RPG, MSOFFICE and SQL. A thorough knowledge of the IBM iSeries computer equipment and languages is desired. Networking skills is a plus. Experience with database transitions and migration a plus.

Must work well as a team member and be able to communicate with team members and other Association staff and management.

Must have good communication skills. Must be able to work under stress when solving problems and in emergency situations involving hardware or software failure. Must be able to follow detailed oral and written instructions.

The systems analyst is expected to keep abreast of the trends, developments, and directions of the computer industry.

Must be willing to work at nights or on weekends when the situation demands. On occasion, must attend technical conferences or meetings held out of town.
