Association of the Miraculous Medal

Can you picture the Blessed Virgin Mary, seated upon her throne in heaven, praying for you —especially you — right now?

This is more than just a nice thought or wish. It is a truth Our Lady told to Sister Catherine Labouré on the night of November 27, 1830, at the Daughters of Charity motherhouse in Paris.

Mary appeared to Catherine in the chapel. Clothed in white, she stood upon a globe and held a golden ball in her hands. She told Catherine:

“The ball you see represents the world … and each person in particular … I am praying for it and for everyone in the world.”

Notice Mary didn’t say, “I might pray …" or “I will pray.” She said, “I AM praying …" At every moment in time, the Mother of God and Queen of Heaven is praying for you, and me, individually.

Before Mary departed from Catherine that night, she left a promise and a sign for all of us. She promised to pour out graces and spiritual favors upon anyone who asks for them with confidence. And she left us “the Miraculous Medal” — a sign of her maternal love.

You may request free blessed Miraculous Medals as a reminder of this.  May you be spiritually renewed as you recite its familiar prayer: “O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

Two members have written us to share their stories of Mary’s intercession for their needs.

Jean from New York writes:
“I want to thank you for reaching out to me about my five-year-old daughter with brain cancer and for your prayers. Knowing you continue to remember my daughter … is what helps us put one foot in front of the other. She has only a small bit of tumor left, is currently on chemo meds, and remains symptom free — living life as a five-year-old should. Please pray for her to keep the miracles coming. I have no doubt my Miraculous Medal has carried me through this whole ordeal. My daughter is proof!”

Deborah from Michigan offers this remarkable testimony:
“Thank you so much for your prayers for my 12-year-old grandson who was involved in an off-road vehicle accident. Doctors didn’t think he would make it. While I was in the chapel at the hospital, a lady gave me a Miraculous Medal saying, “Mary told me to give you this.” His doctor has since said it is a miracle that he survived! We are so grateful to Our Blessed Mother and her Miraculous Medal. We know it was through her powerful intercession with her Son, Jesus, that our grandson is doing so well.”

As always, you and your needs are remembered in the daily Masses and prayers here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.

You may share your specific intentions and choose to leave an offering with it, for which we are very grateful. Your kind gift will be used to help us reach more people with the good news of Mary’s promise and sign of hope.

Thank you for allowing the Association of the Miraculous Medal to be part of your spiritual journey. May you draw ever closer to Jesus through the merits and loving intercession of his and Our Blessed Mother. Remember, Mary is praying for you.

Sincerely in Jesus and Mary,

Fr.Kevin McCracken, C.M.
