Association of the Miraculous Medal

Beginning August 6, at 8:00 a.m., CT, we will honor our Blessed Mother here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal with a very special Assumption Novena of Masses.

On each of these nine days we will celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in devotion to Mary, asking her to obtain for us God’s infinite graces. Do you know someone, perhaps a spouse, child, grandchild, or friend, in need of Jesus’ loving mercy?

Please send me their names, as well as any special prayer intentions you have. We will place them at our Lady’s Altar and remember each one of them in the nine Assumption Novena Masses we celebrate, as well as in the Solemnity Mass on August 15.

You may also wish to burn a Votive Light at the Shrine as an expression of your desire to honor Mary and seek her intercession. Simply complete and return the enclosed reply form. All donations will help the Association bring others to Jesus through Mary.

Your kindness will also assist the Vincentian community in its ministries of evangelization and service to the poor. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Because of her immaculate conception, Mary was preserved from original sin and all of its effects, including bodily corruption. For this reason, when her work on earth was finished, the Mother of God was taken up, body and soul, into heavenly glory.

The Solemnity of the Assumption provides us with a wonderful opportunity to honor Mary, glorious in heaven and always interceding for us. Our Lady is indeed "blessed among women".

Please join us in spirit by using the Assumption prayer and meditation as we pray for you and all the Association’s members during the Assumption Novena, August 6-14.

You are in my prayers. Please pray for all members of the Association. May Jesus bless you, and may Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal keep you in her care.

In the love of Mary,

Fr. Kevin McCracken, C.M.
Spiritual Director

P.S. The beautiful artwork with this letter is the actual painting behind the altar here at our Lady’s Shrine. When the Church was restored in 1913, an exact copy of Murillo’s Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was imported to the Perryville, Missouri, church from Germany. Locally we are known as the “Church of the Assumption” because of the wonderful replica that adorns the altar.
