Association of the Miraculous Medal

Sarah was a four-year-old who, in spite of chronic illness, was so cheerful that she touched the hearts of all who knew her. On Mother’s Day Sarah asked her mom to take her to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. She knelt and prayed, "God bless Mommy, God bless Daddy." She thanked God for birds, flowers, and all his gifts. Then she looked up at Mary’s statue, smiled, and said, "Happy Mother’s Day, Mary!"

All of us who have ever knelt before a statue of our Lady or whispered a prayer to her have come to know Mary as our mother. On the Miraculous Medal we see her hands reaching out to us, shining with the rays of God’s grace, and in prayer we take her hands in ours.

As a little boy, Jesus took Mary’s hand. On the cross, Jesus said to his beloved disciple, "Behold your Mother," and John took Mary’s hands in his. For two thousand years, believers have felt in Mary’s touch the assurance of a mother’s love.

Easter Remembrance CardI invite you to share Mary’s love on Mother’s Day by sending a card. Mary’s hands, reaching out to those who receive your card, are not empty. They embrace Jesus, and Mary presents him to all her other children. Mary says to them what she must have said to the shepherds and magi at Bethlehem, "Would you like to hold Jesus?"

By sending a Mother’s Day card, you offer the love of Mary and Jesus. The card is meant first of all for your mother, if she is still living. It can also send a beautiful message of love to your godmother, or to daughters, granddaughters, and friends who are moms.

The card promises recipients a special remembrance in the Masses offered at the Shrine on Mother’s Day, May 11, and through the month of May. And a Votive Light will burn for them as a gift from the Association. It expresses your hope that God will bless them and that Mary will bring them the grace of Jesus for every need. It’s truly a gift card, and it will help others to say with little Sarah, "Happy Mother’s Day, Mary!"

I also invite you to burn your own Votive Light at our Lady's Shrine for your mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, or other mothers in your family. Your Votive Light will stand as a silent reminder of your prayers for them and for any other intentions you may have.

Send your Mother’s Day remembrance list to be remembered on Mother’s Day and during the month of May. You can also request a Votive Lights for your loved ones, and I will pray for them at Mary’s Altar in the Mother’s Day Mass at our Lady’s Shrine, and during the month of May.

Should you need more Mother’s Day cards, call 1-573-547-2508 or 1-800-264-MARY (6279) to place your order. Or, you may click here to order online.

Any offering you send will help spread devotion to our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and assist the Vincentian community in its ministries.

Your mother will be in my prayers as I celebrate Mass on Mother's Day. May Mary, Jesus’ mother and yours, intercede for you and bring you God's richest blessings.

Sincerely yours in our Lady,
