12 Day Pilgrimage
October 5 - October 16, 2008

Dear Fellow Pilgrim,

This fall our pilgrimage will take us to Poland, Prague, and Budapest. Poland, a country steeped in the Catholic faith for over a millennium, has kept the faith alive through some very difficult times in the nation’s history. We will visit many wonderful places, including sites that are related to the life of the beloved Pope John Paul II, St. Faustina, and Maximilian Kolbe. You will be able to visit the Shrine of our Lady of Czestochowa, Auschwitz, and Krakow. The pilgrimage also includes visits to the beautiful cities of Prague and Budapest, both of which have fascinating histories themselves.

I invite you to join me on this special pilgrimage. Read the brochure and study the extensive itinerary. Read the terms and conditions, and see all that is included. Learn how you will experience the faith, history, and culture of a bit of Central Europe.  Then, join me on the journey. I know that you will be captivated by the Slavic spirit.

Sincerely yours in our Lady,

Father Henry Grodecki's signature

ITINERARY

DAY 1:  Sun., Oct. 5 - Depart New York
Depart New York for your overnight trans-Atlantic flight to Warsaw.  Meals will be served in flight.

DAY 2:  Mon., Oct. 6 - Warsaw D
Welcome to Warsaw, the capital of Poland! You will be met at the airport, assisted with your bags, and escorted to your waiting deluxe motor coach. Transfer to your hotel.

Warsaw - No single city is more dramatically representative of the epic story of Poland than the capital, Warsaw. Almost completely destroyed during World War II, and more than half of its population killed, Warsaw has been restored to its former glory by the mighty effort of the Polish people. The new city of Warsaw is now one of the modern world capitals.

DAY 3:  Tue., Oct. 7 - Warsaw -  B,D
AM:  City Sightseeing Tour
Your tour includes a visit to the Old Town, located on the left bank of the Wisla.  This historical quarter of the city has been restored to its pre-war condition. The charming Rynek Starego Miasta, or Old Town Market Square is surrounded by 17th century and 18th century Renaissance and Baroque houses.  Remnants of the medieval fortifications, which once encircled the town, still remain. Continue along the Royal Route to see the famous statues, aristocratic residences, and gracious Lazienki Park, with a beautiful sculpture of Chopin.

Royal CastleThe highlight of the tour will be a visit to the Royal Castle, which represents Warsaw’s resurrection from the ashes of near total destruction. Like the Old Town itself, the Castle was rebuilt. The Castle has many fabulous rooms, definitely worth visiting. You will see everything from tapestries to period furniture to works of art.

PM: Visit Niepokalanow
Saint Maximilian Kolbe, founder of the Militia of the Immaculate, established this city in order to further concentrate the apostolic work within a large community. The friary of the Immaculate, a great complex of humble buildings, was the Church in miniature.

Niepokalanow became a center for printing religious publications and offering charitable ministry to the local people. Spiritual edification and practical service were equal partners in this city that had both a workshop to create religious art and a fire brigade to protect the surrounding neighborhood.

DAY 4: Wed., Oct. 8 - Warsaw / Czestochowa - B,D
Jasna GoraAM: Depart by private motor coach for Czestochowa, the home of a fascinating and meaningful site.

Visit the shrine of Jasna Gora, one of the world’s most important Catholic shrines. The miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus was brought here in 1382 by Prince Ladislaus. He ordered a church and monastery to be built on the summit of a hill to house the icon. Four to five million pilgrims visit the “Black Madonna” every year and Pope John Paul II himself had visited often.

DAY 5:  Thu., Oct. 9 - Czestochowa / Auschwitz / Wadowice / Kalwaria Zebrzydowska / Krakow  - B,D

AuschwitzAM: Depart for Krakow by private motor coach with several stops for sightseeing.

Your next stop is in Wadowice, the birthplace of Pope John Paul II. Continue to Kalwaria.

PM: Visit the Shrine of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska
This is the oldest and most famous Way of the Cross in Poland. The Bernadine Monastery and Baroque Church of Our Lady of the Angels tower over the small town below. Close to the Monastery are the “Calvary Paths,” a favorite trail of Pope John Paul II.

Proceed to Krakow and check into your hotel.

Krakow - Situated on the Vistula River near the Czech border, Krakow is a city steeped in Polish history. It was a prominent international city and capital of Poland between the 11th and 17th centuries. Some of the outstanding buildings from the 13th century, as well as some 67 churches from different periods remain in their original state.

Stroll through the craft shops of the 14th century Cloth Hall. Your tour will also include an inside visit of the beautiful Wawel Castle.

PM: Visit the Convent of Lagiewniki
See the world famous icon of the Lord’s Grace. The painting depicts Christ as He appeared before a Polish nun, St. Faustina Kowalska. Pilgrims, both Polish and foreign, come daily in thousands to pray before the original picture at the convent where 33-year-old sister Faustina died in 1938 and where she is buried. On August 17, 2002 Pope John Paul II consecrated the sanctuary's majestic basilica.

Visitors are enchanted by the famous Hradcany panorama dominated by the Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, and the River Vltava spanned by the medieval Charles Bridge. Prague is a treasury of all architectural styles, and throughout its history has been an outstanding European cultural center.

The oldest manuscript is a summary of the Gospels, which dates back to the 10th century.
