Mission News Update from Kenya

Here is a recent report we received from Father Ron Ramson, C.M., who is serving in Kenya—

Father Jim Swift, our former provincial superior of the Midwest Province, just completed a visit to the Kenya mission.  He visited the three Vincentian priests who are currently teaching at Christ the King Seminary (the diocesan seminary) in Nyeri.  He has also visited DePaul Centre, as well as the four Vincentian priests serving in Holy Cross Parish in Thigio, and the Daughters of Charity who serve the poor in the region.

Father Swift, Father Barry Moriarty, and I toured the new Dream (Drug Resource Enhancement against Aids and Malnutrition) Project.  It is a first-class operation set up by the Daughters of Charity and the Rome based Community of Sant’Egidio to provide care for HIV and AIDS patients in Africa.

The Daughters of Charity provide personnel, their experience in health care, and the trust of people they serve.  In collaboration with the doctors and technical staff from Sant’Egidio, the Sisters provide assurance that the resources of the program directly reach the poorest of the poor.  It is close to its official opening, they are just waiting for a few more pieces of equipment.

We again are planning to have our Emmaus Program for the continuing formation and education of diocesan priests in mid-May at the Carmelites’ Retreat House.  The focus of the sessions will be “small Christian communities” and “parish administration.”  We expect to have around 35 priests in attendance, and hope to open the program to all the priests in Kenya this fall.

We still need PRAYER.  Please have everyone pray for peace in Kenya.  We are still very worried about the political situation here.

Please keep praying for those who lost their lives in the fighting and bloodshed that wracked the Kenyan cities, slums, and countryside in the past months.  Also, remember in your prayers those who lost their loved ones, their homes, businesses, and others whose lives were torn apart by the rioting and violence.

The very poor are still suffering.  So please continue to support us as we carry on our ministry to the poor in the name of Saint Vincent de Paul.

Please help support our Missions in Kenya and around the world.
