The 2010 May Procession
The annual May Procession was held on Sunday, May 2, at 3:30 P.M. (Central Time)
on the grounds of Saint Mary's of the Barrens in Perryville, Missouri, USA. The
procession attracted over 700 people from as far as Texas and California, along with people from the surrounding area who stated it was their first time attending the May Procession.
After threatening skies earlier in the day we were blessed with (some) sunshine and pleasant temperatures for the outdoor procession. This large public event honoring our Blessed Mother was a beautiful celebration of spring and a good time to renew friendships. The procession formed in front of the
National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, the church at St. Mary's
of the Barrens, and proceeded in prayer and song to the grotto. During the procession
to the grotto, the rosary was recited. At the grotto, there was a prayer service
which included traditional Marian hymns and the May crowning.
The photos above were taken during the ceremony.
