Sister Marillac Clarke, D.C., the former Mary Elizabeth Clarke, was born on October 30, 1906, to Michael and Elizabeth Clarke in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a member of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul for 73 years.
Sister Marillac entered the Daughters of Charity on February 15, 1934, at the age of 28. One of her sisters went on to join Sister Marillac as a member of the Daughters of Charity in 1942, and a brother was ordained a priest of the Diocese (now Archdiocese) of Indianapolis in 1934.
Sister Marillac served in eleven different community ministries in six states over a 60-year period. Most of her assignments were in accounting, administration, or business management.
She retired to Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana, where she became active in the Ministry of Prayer in October 1997. Sister Marillac died on December 14, 2007, at the age of 101. Her Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated in Seton Chapel on December 17, 2007, with burial in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Sister Marillac had a great love for the Blessed Mother and she was devoted to the Miraculous Medal. She remembered our Lady’s Association with a generous gift from her estate.
Have you considered including our Lady’s Association in your will or trust? A will is the foundation of an estate plan. Without a will or “chart” to outline the distribution of your assets, the state dictates what happens to your property.
If you would like information on starting your planned giving process, send for our new free brochure, “Charting Your Course With A Will”. Learn how you can become a member of Mary’s Legacy Society by remembering our Lady’s Association in your will.
