When Father Lennoxie Lusabe, C.M., pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Thigio, Kenya visited the Association offices last fall, he told me a brief story about one of the members of the Association in his parish. Here is the story of this remarkable boy.
“One of the members of the Association of the Miraculous Medal in our parish in Thigio is a 15-year old boy who, along with other members of our group of 15 members, has distributed more than 3,000 Miraculous Medals since last year.
“Here is a little bit about this extraordinary young boy—as I mentioned, the boy is 15 years old, but in these 15 years the boy has had more than 13 surgeries on his kidneys. When he first began treatment, his parents thought that he was not going to live. In addition, even if he lived, his parents were faced with the question of where they were going to get the money to sustain his treatments—he goes for dialysis twice a week.
“The fascinating thing about this boy is that despite these challenges he always has a smiling face and believes that he is alive because of the love of God, through our Mother Mary. Indeed, he attributes his life to the love and care of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
“He has really become a great ambassador of the Blessed Mary, especially in distributing the Miraculous Medals and telling people how praying to the Blessed Mother and wearing the medal can work miracles in their lives.
“Many people are not yet members but they love the story of the Miraculous Medal. We hope that they will come to embrace the charism of our Lady’s Association here in Thigio.”
