Rose Sungail was born on April 30, 1914, in Westville, Illinois, to Joseph and Rose (Janos) Kovanic. She married Peter A. Sungail on July 29, 1934. They were married almost 62 years, before his death on April 19, 1995.
Rose worked in retail sales prior to her retirement. She and Peter retired to Florida in 1968. They were avid bowlers and continued to join bowling leagues until very late in their lives. She remained active in her church, Our Lady of Grace, and various women’s groups.
In 1994, Rose was involved in a serious car accident that left her with multiple injuries, including a broken leg. She was wearing the Miraculous Medal at the time of her accident. She said it was her faith in Mary and the Miraculous Medal that saved her from certain death.
Rose returned to Illinois in 2005 where she resided in an assisted living facility. Rose’s daughter recalled that her mother regularly attended the Friday novenas in honor of the Sorrowful Lady and she prayed her rosary every day. In fact, her daughter mentioned, Rose was praying the Hail Mary just two hours before she entered eternity.
During her lifetime, Rose was a very good friend of the Association of the Miraculous Medal. Rose passed on to her eternal reward on January 11, 2008, and she remembered our Lady’s Association with a bequest gift in her estate.
