Vincentian Family

I invite you to read part one of a fascinating two-part story about the life of Sister Marie de Mandat-Grancey, D.C. As a Daughter of Charity, Sister Marie worked with the poor, especially young children, in 19th century France. She also played a major role in the discovery and preservation of Mary’s home in Ephesus. We will conclude Sister Marie’s story in our next newsletter.

To Honor Mary, Our Queen

The Bible contains a number of references to Mary as our Queen. In the New Testament, we see this in Luke’s gospel as the angel of God speaks to the young virgin at the Annunciation, “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:31-33)

The book of Revelation also alludes to Mary as the Queen of Heaven. Her Son, the King and Lord of the entire universe, took her up to heaven to be at his side for all eternity. Thus as his mother, she becomes Queen.

The Church has referred to Mary as its Queen since early in the fourth century. It has confirmed and honored her by this title throughout its history, even up to the present day.
