Father Henry GrodeckiI’d like to invite you to attend our annual May Procession and May Crowning here at the Shrine on May 6.  About a thousand of Mary’s children will be coming together to express their devotion, show their faith, and honor Mary, our Queen.  If you can’t attend in person, you may send your petitions to be carried in the procession.  Just click on the link.

You’ll find part one of a two-part article by Father Benjamin Romo, C.M., the International Coordinator of the Association of the Miraculous Medal, entitled What is the Association of the Miraculous Medal?, at the bottom of this column.

Construction Projects

Both of the construction projects here on the campus of Saint Mary’s have been substantially completed—the Apostle of Charity Residence of our Vincentian confreres and the Ruth Shelby Heritage and Visitor Center.  We are in the process of completing the landscaping around the campus, but both buildings are now in use.  We still need funds to complete both of these projects, and appreciate any offering you might give.

Father Benjamin Romo, C.M.What Is the Association of the Miraculous Medal?

by Father Benjamin Romo, C.M.

International Coordinator, Association of the Miraculous Medal

The Association of the Miraculous Medal is an association of the Church’s faithful Christians, a gift from the Holy Spirit, benefiting Church members and serving the world, having as models the Virgin Mary and Saint Vincent de Paul.

Purposes and Objectives

To live the universal vocation to sanctity:  the Association’s objective is that its members reach sanctity

To follow Jesus Christ:  the Association offers the way to living the Christian vocation of sanctity

To imitate Mary:  the Miraculous Medal with its symbols is a model and aid in reaching sanctity

To provide charity to the poor:  the Association grew in the Church to serve the Church and the world.  The purpose of this Association is an apostolate of charity, particularly to the most abandoned.

Characteristics

It is an ecclesial Association:  the members of the Association pledge to live and work responsibly, locally and worldwide, in communion with the Church, its laity, and its pastors.

It is a Marian Association:  the members of the Association pledge to follow Christ, as exemplified by Mary.  All believers, with Mary as their model, discover the Gospel of Mary by embracing the presence of God and his Son, Jesus, and listen and live according to the Word.

We will conclude Father Romo’s article in next month’s newsletter.
