I live with a fascinating group of Vincentian priests and brothers here at the Apostle of Charity Residence.

They’ve come from all over the country. Their parents had many different lifestyles. Some of their families were wealthy, others exceedingly poor. And they mirror the melting pot that is America, coming from many different ethnic backgrounds. You could fill several large volumes just listing the places they’ve been, the people they’ve known, and the ministries they’ve worked in during their lives. They came from everywhere, and all found a home in the Vincentian Family.

I was visiting with one of them just a few weeks ago, catching up on his life. I asked if I could write about him in my message to you. He reluctantly agreed, if only he could remain anonymous. I told him that I knew you’d understand.

My friend and his fellow Vincentians here at the Apostle of Charity Residence would not think of asking for help for themselves. That’s my ministry right now in my life, to ask you to help provide for their needs now that they are in the autumn of their lives.

As I mentioned, all of these men are still very active in the ministry of prayer. They pray for those who provided for them during their yearFr. Lmary and Fr. Bogettos of formation as seminarians and through their years of active ministry in service to the poor, teaching, and pastoral work. And they are especially grateful to those who assist them now, in their senior years.

I know you are aware of the high cost of healthcare, physical therapy, and medications for your own family. And you yourself may care for someone who now resides in an assisted living facility, a nursing home, or critical care facility. Now multiply that by the 20 senior Vincentians at the Apostle of Charity Residence, and add in another 25 Vincentians who live in other senior residences around the Midwest Province. You can see why I am asking you for your help in supporting these men.

They needed the support of Association members when they were young seminarians preparing for lives of service to the Church. Now they need your help as they experience the infirmities of old age due to many years of tireless service to their community and their Church.

Praying HandsAnd I know that you believe in this and the many other good works of the Association. Would you please make a generous gift to help us in our work? I am asking because our work of caring for these men is so important. Any donation you send is important, so please help!

I will continue to remember you and your intentions in my daily Mass. And you are in the grateful prayers of the Vincentian priests, brothers, and seminarians of the Midwest Province, especially those men living here at the Apostle of Charity Residence at Saint Mary’s of the Barrens.

Sincerely yours in our Lady,
     Fr. Grodecki
