At the end of May many of us make a special trip to a local cemetery. There we visit the graves of our loved ones, perhaps placing flowers and saying silent prayers.

We may pray especially for a family member or maybe a relative who served our country as a member of the military but who is now deceased.

While we are there, our eyes fall on other graves—grandparents, a favorite aunt, a special friend, a parent, or perhaps a spouse. We say a prayer for each of them and all who are buried there.

The day we make this particular trip is Memorial Day. It is a day of remembering, of honoring, and of praying for our dear departed relatives and friends.

I’d like to offer you another way to observe Memorial Day in prayer. Send the names of your beloved departed and your intentions to our Lady’s Shrine. It’s so easy to keep your loved ones before our Lady.

I will keep your intentions at our Lady’s Shrine for Memorial Day and remember you and your departed loved ones in the Mass on that day. You and your intentions will also be in the prayers of the Vincentian family of priests and brothers in the western United States.

Prayerfully remembering the faithful departed on Memorial Day is a tradition here at our Lady’s Shrine. In addition to prayer, many people light a Votive Light for their departed loved ones. In fact, some burn a Votive Light at this time for each of their loved ones. And others keep a Votive Light burning all year—as a reminder of God’s eternal love.

Any offering you contribute will help the work of our Lady's Association. Your gift will be more than just a donation or a Votive Light, you will help the abandoned poor and the clergy, and help carry out the other work of the Association.
