May Procession-Sunday, May 4
It was a beautiful, sunny day for the annual May Procession in Perryville, Missouri.
More than 850 people attended the celebration honoring our Blessed Mother. Some of those attending came from as far away as Michigan, South Carolina, and Oklahoma. Others came from St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, and Arkansas to be a part of this special tradition.
The service included traditional Marian hymns, reciting the rosary, the placing of your petitions before our Lady by the 8th grade Confirmation students, the placing of roses before our Lady by the 2nd grade First Communion students, the May crowning, and a tribute to Mary by Father Oscar Lukefahr, C.M.
Something new this year was the addition of two large banners made up of cloth petitions sent to us by members of the Association of the Miraculous Medal. Because so many cloth petitions were returned, eight smaller banners were sewn together and carried in the procession along with the larger banners. The banners will be made into lap quilts for the senior priests at the Apostle of Charity Residence on the Shrine campus.
The Association would like to thank all the families, students, teachers, staff members, and visitors who attended the May Procession this year.
