What's New

Thank You for Helping Us Reach Our Goal of One Million Medals!

On June 20 of 1832, two long years after Saint Catherine Labouré received the image of the Miraculous Medal from our Lady, the first 2,000 medals were struck and made ready for distribution. Catherine looked upon these inaugural medals and said, “Now it must be propagated.”

As you know from your faithful membership in our Lady’s Association, tens of millions of medals were distributed in the first eight years of production alone, and countless millions more have been propagated since!

This past Lent, the Association invited you and all her members to join together in giving our Blessed Mother a special birthday present. We challenged one another to give out a total of one million Miraculous Medals before Mary’s birthday on September 8.

Well CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU! Not only did we meet our goal, but because of your help, we surpassed it with a total distribution of 1,730,305 medals. What a wonderful birthday gift we were able to present to our Blessed Mother!

November All Souls Remembrance

At the Shrine of our Lady in Perryville, we will pray for your deceased relatives and friends throughout the month of November. On All Souls Day, November 2, we will celebrate Mass for those you wish to remember. Send me their names so they can be placed near the altar for All Souls Day, and if you also give us their anniversary dates, we will remember your loved ones at the appropriate time in the coming year. You can also burn Votive Lights for your departed loved ones as a visible reminder of your prayers for them.
Read Fr. Kevin’s letter about the time-honored tradition of commemorating the faithful departed on All Souls Day.

Celebrating the Vincentian Family with an Outdoor Mass - September 25

You are invited to attend an outdoor Mass on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the Shrine grotto in Perryville, Missouri, beginning at 11:00 a.m., CT. Our country and our community are blessed by the many terrific organizations doing the Lord’s work in the name of Saint Vincent de Paul. These include the Ladies of Charity, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, the Vincentian Marian Youth (VMY), and others. This will be a beautiful occasion for saying “thank you” to so many hard-working, compassionate members of the Vincentian Family. I ask you to extend the same invitation to all those in your Church family who carry out the work of Saint Vincent de Paul. Because the Mass is outdoors, you are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or quilts on which to sit. Transportation from the parking lot to the grotto will be available to those unable to walk. After Mass, there will be a Vincentian family reception in Labouré Hall at the Visitor Center with cookies and drinks. On September 25, there will be NO 11:00 a.m. Mass at Saint Vincent de Paul Church or the Shrine Church UNLESS the outdoor Mass is rained out. In that case, Mass will take place as usual at 11:00 a.m. at both the Shrine Church and Saint Vincent de Paul Church.

Please accept this as my personal invitation to journey with our Lady’s Association to Fatima, May 1 – 10, 2017, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima. During this ten day pilgrimage, we will visit Lisbon, Santarem, Fatima, Santiago de Compostela, Coimbra, Braga, Porto, and Sintra. In Fatima we will visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Fatima, the tombs of Francisco, Jacinto, and Sister Lucia, where they lived, where our Lady appeared to them, and the Little Chapel of Apparitions with the famous statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Other places of interest will be the Monastery of Saint Clare, the Shrine of the “Good Jesus,” the cathedral housing the remains of Saint James, the church housing the Eucharistic Miracle, the royal Pena Palace, and much more.

We’ve worked hard on this pilgrimage to offer you the best places to visit, excellent restaurants, and good hotels. You will have the opportunity to attend daily Mass and to join other members of our Miraculous Medal family to strengthen your faith as you walk, pray, and reflect on your own journey. To receive a full color itinerary brochure or for more details, call our office at 1-800-264-MARY(6279). Space is limited so don’t delay in signing up! We look forward to seeing you on this pilgrimage.

Travel in Spirit to Poland and Prague

On Thursday, October 6, Fr. Kevin McCracken, C.M., and a group of pilgrims will begin the Association’s pilgrimage to Poland and Prague during this Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy.  Please join us in spirit and prayer on this journey of faith by sending your petitions to be remembered in Mass each day of the pilgrimage. Follow the pilgrimage itinerary and Mass schedule, and recite the prayer to our Lady of the Miraculous Medal each day of the pilgrimage. You can also follow Fr. Kevin and the other pilgrims each day of their pilgrimage on our homepage, Facebook, or Twitter. Request one of our pilgrimage souvenir gifts as part of your spiritual participation in this year’s journey.  Read Fr. Kevin’s letter about an “extraordinary year” Jubilee in Old Testament times and how it relates to our pilgrimage during this Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy.

Our Lady of Sorrows Knows Your Pain

Our Lady of Sorrows is one of Mary’s many honored titles.  It seems especially relevant because she knew and experienced sorrow as deeply and as painfully as anyone can.  She witnessed the passion and crucifixion of her only Son, unable to help him…except by her prayers.  This is how our Lady helps us today, and she is waiting to help you now!  I invite you to join us at our Blessed Mother’s Altar during the Our Lady of Sorrows Novena, beginning on September 7.  Send us your petitions to be placed near Mary’s Altar, and burn Votive Lights for your intentions. For each of the nine days of the novena, say this prayer. Read Fr. Kevin’s message about Our Lady of Sorrows.

Back to School

Ready or not, the new school year is upon students and teachers. If you know someone returning to school soon - a child, teenager, adult, teacher, or staff member, please send me their names so they may be included in the prayers and Masses offered at our Lady's Shrine for the entire school year. You can also send your loved ones our new "Back to School" Votive Light Card to let them know you are praying for them. You might also want to give returning students and teachers their very own Miraculous Medal attached to a lobster-claw clasp. Read Fr. Kevin's letter about returning to school and finding real freedom in knowing our Lord Jesus.

Join Our Celebration...

On July 18, 1830, our Lady of the Miraculous Medal said to Sister Catherine Labouré, “Come to the foot of the altar. There graces will be shed on all, great and little, who ask for them.”  As we celebrate the 186th anniversary of Mary’s apparition to Saint Catherine, I invite you to send your petitions and burn a Votive Light at our Lady’s Altar, asking our Blessed Mother to obtain God’s graces for you, your family, and the entire world.  If you live close by, please join us on July 18, for the Monday night novena service beginning at 7:15 p.m., CT, followed by Mass at 7:30 p.m.  Our first class relic of Saint Catherine Labouré will be available during this time for veneration.  It will be a special evening to not only pray to our Blessed Mother during the novena to her, but to also give thanks to Saint Catherine for saying “yes” to God’s mission for her.

Join our Assumption Novena of Masses
Beginning Sunday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m., CT, we will honor our Blessed Mother here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal with a very special Assumption Novena of Masses.  On each of these nine days we will celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in devotion to Mary, asking her to obtain for us God’s infinite graces.  Do you know someone, perhaps a spouse, child, grandchild, or friend, in need of Jesus’ loving mercy?
Please, send me their names, as well as any special prayer intentions you have.
We will place them at our Lady’s Altar and remember them in the nine Assumption Masses we celebrate, including the Solemnity Mass on August 15. You may also wish to burn a Votive Light at the Shrine as an expression of your desire to honor Mary and seek her intercession. Read
Fr. Kevin’s Assumption letter to learn more about the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
  Read Our Summer Bulletin
In the summer issue of the Miraculous Medal Bulletin, Fr. Kevin talks about receiving and sharing God’s mercy.  We are not simply recipients of God’s mercy, but through our Baptism and Confirmation, we are also instruments of his mercy to others. He also writes about the seven corporal works of mercy – actions by which we help our neighbors in their bodily needs. Sister Joanne Vasa, a Daughter of Charity for 40 years writes about the connection between the Year of Mercy and the Miraculous Medal, and how we are challenged to become the loving face of God to all those we encounter.  In the summer issue you will also find highlights from both the Perryville and Montebello May Processions, and an update on the Votive Light Sanctuary. Read the Summer Bulletin for these articles and more.

Online visit to St. Louis Year of Mercy Pilgrimage Sites

View a 360 degree spherical tour of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. We are one of the nine designated pilgrimage sites named by the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

God is love, and God communicates his love for us in many ways. His greatest gift to us is Jesus who gave his life for our salvation.  His gift continues until the end of time in the Eucharist. We follow God’s lead and communicate our love to friends and family members through gifts which reflect and relay God’s love.  One such gift is a Perpetual Membership in the Association of the Miraculous Medal.  It’s a gift suitable for any occasion—a birth, anniversary, wedding, graduation, memorial, or as a gesture of thanks. Read more about our Perpetual Memberships and the spiritual benefits bestowed upon the person enrolled.

Join our 2016 Year of Mercy Pilgrimage to Poland

As you know, Pope Francis declared 2016 to be a Jubilee Year of Mercy.  This is your invitation to journey with the Association of the Miraculous Medal into the mercy of God by joining us on a spiritual and exciting Year of Mercy Pilgrimage to Poland and Prague, October 6 -15, 2016.  Poland is known as the land of mercy saints—St. John Paul II, St. Maximilian Kolbe, and St. Faustina Kowalska (Divine Mercy).  You will not only have the opportunity to pray to these saints, but to also visit the places where they lived and worked.  This trip will be a real blessing.  Click here to receive a colored brochure, or for more information please call our office 1-800-264-MARY(6279).
Be the Hands and Heart of Christ to Those in Need

When the people we love are suffering, we must remember that the Holy Spirit gives us the power to minister to them.  By faith, hope, and charity (love), we are the hands and heart of Christ to those in need. By using our Healing Remembrance Certificate, to bring comfort and strength to someone suffering from illness, injury, or emotional pain, you are asking Mary to share their suffering and to bring her Son’s miraculous healing.  Read more about Mary’s healing intercession.

What would happen if you died without a will?

Without a will, the state has technically made one for you.  From state to state, “intestacy” laws, which are impersonal and flexible, allow the court-appointed administrators to distribute all of your property to certain relatives—if they can be found—or to the state itself.  Also, intestacy laws cannot provide for worthwhile institutions such as the Association of the Miraculous Medal. Our Charitable Giving Division will be delighted to send you more information on will planning and how to plan a bequest to the Association.  Read the spring issue of Rays of Light for more information about Charitable Giving and Mary’s Legacy Society.
  Answering the call

For nearly a century, the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal has served our AMM family as a center of prayer, the heart of our apostolate from which we reach out to the world as trusted messengers of truth and sharers of Mary's Miraculous Medal.

Now this center of devotion is itself in need of our loving care.

Click here to read more about Our Lady's Call and how you can become a part of this mission.

We’re getting close to our goal, but still need your help!

Earlier this year the Association launched a campaign to distribute one million medals by September 8, as a present to Mary on the feast of her birthday.  To date we’ve distributed more than 600,000 of the medal attached to an informational card.  We still need your help to accomplish our goal by September 8!  If every member of our Lady’s Association gives out just 10 medals, we will hit our goal of one million!  You can share medals with your children, grandchildren, neighbors, parish friends, your auxiliary group, or classrooms at your local school. Our Lady told Saint Catherine that the Miraculous Medal must be given to all the world. Please consider being a part of this important mission.  Order your medals here, or call our office at 1-800-264-6279. Mary promised to obtain God’s graces for all who wear her Miraculous Medal.

Read comments from our members about how they are going to continue the mission that our Blessed Mother gave St. Catherine.

Students thank the Association for Miraculous Medals

As part of our Million Medals Campaign, local students at the Catholic Elementary School received Miraculous Medals from the Association.  Read some of the letters written to us in appreciation for the medals from fifth grade students.

Blessed Mother Healing Oil – Request yours today!

Like the Miraculous Medal, healing oil is a sign of our faith and a reminder of God’s immense love.

Its healing properties are found in the spiritual conversion of growing closer to our Lord – in prayer, in reading of sacred Scripture, and in reception of the Church’s sacraments, especially Holy Eucharist and Reconciliation. For an offering of $17 or more, we will send you a hand-packaged, 1/2 ounce bottle of Blessed Mother Healing Oil which has been blessed and touched to a relic of Saint Catherine Labouré here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.  Send your intentions and say this prayer to our Lady for healing when using this oil on yourself, your children, grandchildren, and anyone else in need of Mary’s motherly care and God’s healing love.  To read Fr. Kevin’s letter about our Blessed Mother’s Healing Oil, click here.
